CHRIS Information Center Locations and Contacts
The institutions listed below are under agreement with the Office of Historic Preservation to provide the following services:
- Integrate information on new resources and known resources into the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS).
- Supply information on resources and surveys to government, institutions, tribes, and individuals who have a need to know.
- Supply a list of consultants qualified to do historic preservation fieldwork within their area.
Note: Due to the continuing realities of COVID-19, and the effect those may have on policies at the universities that host CHRIS Information Centers (ICs), it is recommended that IC patrons confirm access to facilities prior to traveling to any IC location to conduct record searches.

Eastern Information Center (Closed)
The Eastern Information Center (EIC) of the California Historical Resources Information System (CHRIS), located at UC Riverside, ceased operations on Friday, June 28, 2024. The physical transfer of the records was completed in November 2024.
The EIC cultural resources records for Inyo, Mono, and Riverside counties were transferred to the information centers whose present service areas are adjacent to the former EIC’s three-county service area, as follows: the Southern San Joaquin Valley Information Center (SSJVIC) (Bakersfield) received Inyo County records; the Central California Information Center (CCIC) (Turlock) received Mono County records; and the South Coastal Information Center (SCIC) (San Diego) received Riverside County records.
As of December 2, 2024, the SSJVIC, CCIC, and SCIC are accepting record search requests for the three former EIC counties. Record search requests will be responded to in the order in which the requests are received, and in consideration of any priority response requests. Please be judicious in attempts to contact these three information centers about the status of submitted requests. Each of these information centers will obviously have an initial backlog to work through in December for the subject counties. Time that information center staff spends on the phone or on emails providing status updates is time not spent on pulling together record search request responses. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to make these records available.
