The Harvey-Baker House, constructed in 1868, is one of the few remaining resources that reflect the early development of Salinas, California. As the home of Isaac J. Harvey, Salinas’ first mayor, it is significant for its association with a prominent family and their contributions to the growth of Salinas. Harvey’s daughter Mabel, her husband Frank Baker, and their children resided in and maintained the house for over six decades following Harvey’s death in 1899. In 1980, the family donated the house to the Monterey County Historical Society.
