The Hotel Chancellor is a five-story Beaux-Arts residential hotel completed in 1925. The primary elevation consists of brick construction with cast-concrete elements. Decoration is concentrated on the tripartite entrance with distinctive components of the Beaux-Arts style: round-topped sash windows set within a single arch, twisted colonettes, voussiers, cartouches with volutes and garlands, and composite capitals. The property was listed at the local level under Criterion C in the area of architecture as a good representative example of 1920s apartment design in the Wilshire Boulevard area of Los Angeles. In 2002 a Part 1 – Evaluation of Significance was approved by the National Park Service certifying the building appeared individually eligible for the National Register. The property has recently been rehabilitated for low and moderate income housing. The Part 3 certifying the work was complete and in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation was approved by NPS June, 2005.
